Mayflies: Swarm Coming Soon
I am delighted to announce that I will be creating my first exhibition in Edinburgh this year!
Mayflies: Swarm features an installation of 10,000 hand-cut paper mayflies, an immersive piece exploring time and memories. Alongside the installation there will be a participatory exhibition where visitors document their thoughts on the piece and its themes.
I first created this work while at university and I have exhibited it 7 times in between 2011 and 2015. This work launched my career and was my first experience of working with communities to make art.
Over the last 10 years I have been working mainly in community art, running workshops and working for arts charities. I am looking forward to going back to my practice, especially going back to this project and seeing how my experience has changed my relationship to it.
This exhibition will be in The Barnton Bunker, a nuclear bunker that is being renovated. It has a long history, from nuclear bunker, to council offices, illegal raves, fire, and now being carefully and lovingly renovated by volunteers.
I am so excited to work with them!
The Private View will be 6th June, 6pm-8.30pm and it will be open to the public for a couple of weeks.
People will only be able to visit the work by booking, so keep an eye on updates so you can get your slot booked!
