Creature Commission – Amusing and for a good cause!

I am delving into the world of drawing people… …well, not really drawing people but drawing people as creatures….and hoping they do not fall out with me! (always good to live life on the edge) It is simple really – you send me a description of yourself with things like; what your favourite animal, food or plant is, what your likes and dislikes are, any special talents, good and bad characteristics about you and any other facts about you… It is good…

Mayflies

Mayflies

Mayflies is an art installation which consists of a swarm of thousands of Mayflies cut out of white paper, each around 13 centimetres long from head to tail. They are individually attached directly to the walls of the space in a swarm-like formation. All the Mayflies were hand-cut by myself, meaning that each pair of Mayflies is unique. All the venues I have exhibited Mayflies in have had their own unique aspects and feel to…

Conversation with a Stranger

Conversation with a Stranger

I was part of the project “Workshops in People’s Homes” in May 2016 which was a project developed by the arts organisation Abandon Normal Devices and Artist Joshua Sofaer. The program invited people to develop their own unique workshops to deliver to the public from their own homes. I chose to host mine at Winters Park Residential Home, the home of the residents. I worked with friend Marion Bruce to design and run the workshop which…

A Present from a Stranger is a project with the simple aim to make a strangers smile by giving them a Christmas Card with a present inside. #100Daysofcreatures

From the 6th April until the 14th July 2015 I participated in #The100DayProject. I drew a creature every day for 100 days. I painted the creatures, gave them a name and often a little back story. Each creature was posted on instagram everyday. A lot of the drawings were requests as I often gave the people who follow me on Facebook the opportunity to suggest a creature. Drawing these were great fun as they were normally…

Penrith Library’s Wishing Chair

Penrith Library’s Wishing Chair

The Wishing Chair was a workshop I designed and ran for The Penrith Library (Cumbria) inspired by the Enid Blyton books about the wishing chair in 2012. The workshop encouraged the children to think of the adventure they would go on the wishing chair and given a square of fabric to draw this adventure on. I then transformed these drawings into a chair cover to be used in the library’s children’s area which is still…

Penrith Library’s Creepy House

Penrith Library’s Creepy House

This was a commission from Penrith Library (Cumbria) to promote the Summer Reading Challenge in 2013. The theme for 2013 was “Creepy House”. My brief was to create a large 3D creepy house based upon the illustrations created for the theme by Chris Riddell. Every year, thousands of families all over the country take part in the UK’s biggest reading event for children in libraries, the Summer Reading Challenge, run by the charity The Reading…
